Course Overview:
The Certificate in Basic Diamond Grading Course is designed to provide students with a practical understanding of diamond grading and the factors that influence a diamond’s value. This course covers the fundamentals of diamond anatomy, growth and properties, an introduction to rough diamond mining to markets as well as a comprehensive understanding to the 4C’s- Carat, Clarity, Colour and Cut in a polish diamond. As part of their training, students will practice using minimum 1000 diamonds available at the institute to gain hands-on practical experience. Students will learn to examine a diamond using a tweezer and 10x Eye Loupe and handheld techniques.

Course Content:
- Diamond Anatomy: Explore the intricate structure and components of a diamond
- Diamond Growth and Properties: Understand the formation process and inherent characteristics of diamonds
- Rough Diamonds: Gain insights into the journey of rough diamonds from extraction to the market
- Examination Techniques: Learn to inspect diamonds using tweezers, a 10x Eye Loupe and handheld methods
- Understanding of the 4C’s: Delve into the significance of Carat, Clarity, Color and Cut in polished diamonds
- Carat: Master techniques for weighing, estimating weight, sizing, counting, sieving and gauging diamonds
- Clarity: Familiarize yourself with inclusions, blemishes, plotting techniques and clarity grades
- Color: Learn about international color grades and precise color grading using shade cards and tripods
- Cut: Understand the importance of proportions, symmetry and polish in diamond cut and visual estimation techniques
- Diamond Certification: Explore the process of creating certificates using microscopes and Eye Loupes.
- Basic Assortment: Introduction to sorting diamonds based on the 4C’s
- Real v/s Fake: Differentiate between natural diamonds, synthetic (Lab-grown CVD/HPHT), simulants (CZ, Moissanite) or treated natural diamonds
- Diamond Pricing and Market:In this module, students will have in depth knowledge about the pricing of diamonds in domestic as well as international market
- Internal Assessments and Final Examination: Assess theoretical and practical knowledge through internal assessments and a comprehensive final examination

Course Outcome:
Upon completion of the course, students will have a practical knowledge of diamond grading and be able to examine a diamond using a tweezer and 10x Eye Loupe. They will also understand the importance of the 4Cs in determining a diamond’s value and have good knowledge about diamond pricing. Students will be able to create certificates using a microscope and eye loupe and differentiate between real and fake diamonds. Graduates will be equipped with skills to pursue various career paths, including roles as a diamond manufacturer, expert buyer or seller of loose diamonds, jeweller in wholesale or retail outlets, lab professional, jewellery consultant, auction house specialist, or entrepreneur.
